Renters for Life? Not So, Say 93% of Millennials

The long-standing myth that Millennials (aged 18-34) would rather rent than own a home has been all but squashed according to this recent article from Builder Online. To get a better understanding of how Americans feel about homeownership, they surveyed over 2,000 adults at the close of 2012 and uncovered some interesting facts.

Among the revelations about Millennial renters:

  • 93% plan to buy a home someday
  • 72% say homeownership is part of their personal American Dream

To put that into perspective, less than half of renters aged 55+ say they plan to buy. Why the gap? Builder Online reports that Millennials escaped any permanent scarring by the recession and have maintained a healthy dose of optimism.

For all the homebuyers out there, this Millennial optimism could mean an easier time selling your existing home—and the opportunity to move into your dream home.
