Rappahannock County, VA: New Homes for Sale
Tucked under Virginia's Blue Ridge Mountain range, Rappahannock County has just over 7,000 residents, as of the 2003 Census. More than 40 percent of its 267 square miles is listed as farmland, and its entire western border is Shenandoah National Park.
Natural wonders include the national park's famous Skyline Drive, with 105 miles of spectacular views of the Shenandoah Valley and the Shenandoah Caverns. The Blue Ridge Parkway meanders south from here, and Appalachian Trail cuts through the mountains. Fall is extraordinary, when the leaves change on the mountains and famous hiking trails like Old Rag Mountain and White Oak Canyon are packed, but the county is picturesque in any season.
Washington is the county seat. Sometimes called "Little Washington," the village is only about 200 people and has never outgrown the five by two block grid that 17-year-old George Washington laid out when he surveyed the town in 1749. It's a destination for gourmets, history buffs, artists, musicians, and those who seek a small piece of Americana, where time has stood still.
